Ikea takes a poke at high-end cousin
The 2007 Ikea catalog dropped with a global 80,000-ton thud a few weeks ago. Though its arrival hardly rates on the American cultural calendar, it's something of a phenomenon in Europe, where shelter catalogs aren't so plentiful.
Still, publishing 160 million catalogs a year worldwide (20 million in the United States) is a retail achievement nonpareil. By way of comparison, three years after its release, Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code has about 60 million copies in print.

The recently introduced Registered Agricultural Contractor scheme has been well received with over 20 Rural Contractors signing up for the process in the first three weeks. RACF Executive Director Roger Parton said that the uptake was steady and he expected it to continue at that pace foe sometime. “This is the start of the busy season and contractors’ thoughts are elsewhere at the moment” he said. “However as the farming and lifestyle communities come to understand the benefits of engaging contractors who have been through a registration process, the rate should pick up”. Special session: Quick, clean tax relief
The Mississippi Legislature came to Jackson Thursday to consider a tax cut on modular homes. Amazingly, lawmakers met and completed the work on Gov. Haley Barbour's proposal in record time, about an hour and 45 minutes. Veteran lawmakers called it a record. Considering that legislators can argue anything ad nauseam, it was indeed a feat. Unfortunately, solving the Gulf Coast's housing problems won't be happening anytime soon. Housing remains the No. 1 issue for recovery from Hurricane Katrina. With more than 80,000 units destroyed or damaged, it will take years to replace needed housing. This tax break for modular housing will help. Modular houses are built in factories and assembled on home sites, which can cut the time of obtaining one to about a month, when it can take up to a year for a conventional site-built home.
