Samy Vellu Asks Highway Contractor To Repair Landslide Area
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu has asked the contractor of the Duta-Hulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) to undertake remedial work at the site of the landslide in Wangsa Maju. "I have directed the contractor to start work as soon as possible. I have also asked the Highway Authority of Malaysia to investigate the landslide and submit a full report on the incident," he told Bernama when contacted in London where he is attending the 13th International Transportation System World Congress. The minister said although the cause of the landslide was not known yet, the main contractor of the expressway had been asked to take all measures to complete the remedial work fast. The landslide, which occurred at about 7.10pm Monday following a downpour, resulted in the evacuation of nearly 700 people living in four blocks of low cost flats.
HOME BUILDING: Ron Benach launches fourth venture
Ron Benach, who has founded three Chicago-area home-building companies and built each into one of the largest residential builders in the region, is starting his fourth company, tentatively named Lexington Homes. Benach, 74, is chairman of the new venture and is joined by his son, Jeff Benach, who will be executive vice president of sales and marketing; Chief Executive Wayne Moretti; and Chief Financial Officer Max Plzak. All worked at Concord Homes, which the elder Benach founded in 1992 and sold in 2002 to Lennar Corp. The new company will focus on high-density residential development in Chicago and close-in suburbs, said Jeff Benach. He said the company plans to begin sales for a development of 450 units near 48th Street and Western Avenue in the spring.

HARRISONBURG — Everything fell into place for Millbrook junior Trevor Oyler, who fired a 75 at the Region II Tournament to earn his berth in the Group AA state golf tournament next week at the Roanoke Country Club. Sherando combined to shoot a 324 to tied with Briar Woods High School for fourth in the team competition. Turner Ashby blasted the competition, shooting a 299 to defeat fellow Valley District rival Harrisonburg (312) by 13 strokes. Potomac Falls of the Dulles District finished third at 317. William Monroe took sixth at 326, ahead of Millbrook at 331 and a 333 by Western Albemarle, which had finished second in the region in 2005 after winning the Group AA state title in 2004.
Contractor distributes fuel additive
South Lake Tahoe electrical contractor Frank Champlin has brought the environmental term "Think globally, act locally" to his hometown. Champlin, who's been in business for seven years, hopes to expand his energy to distributing Ethos, a fuel additive designed to increase gas mileage and reduce emissions and maintenance. He now buys it on the Internet for his four vehicles. After hearing about the substance through a fellow contractor four months ago, he used it in his three work vehicles and household car. In some cases, Champlin has received four miles per gallon more than his prior mileage - with three tanks stretched to four for his company van. The mileage has been so good, he's extended his business coverage to Reno. And once he crunched the calculator upon getting a smog test, the businessman figured he's eliminated four tons of carbon emissions from the air in Lake Tahoe.
