VISTA ---- A judge's recent ruling ordering the Vista Unified School District to address traffic and safety concerns near a proposed 66-acre high school campus in eastern Oceanside means that costs for the controversial project could grow by more than $1 million, and possibly much higher.The district had already agreed that key improvements recommended by the California Department of Transportation were needed at the intersection of Highway 76 and Melrose Drive to accommodate the planned campus, but had argued that other agencies should be required to make them. The Sept. 22 ruling by Superior Court Judge Lisa Guy-Schall means that the district is responsible for the work, which could include adding right- and left-turn lanes, as well as center medians or a pricey pedestrian overpass across the busy highway.
Church bought single mom of two a new home
After Hurricane Rita blitzed her Texas home a year ago, a single mom's faith in God was strengthened when the First Baptist Church in Bermuda bought her a new home on the same parcel of land.
While the country was still gaping at Katrina's devastation of New Orleans, falling trees blown about by category three Rita's fierce winds sweeping in from the Gulf of Mexico and causing $10 billion in damage in the Houston area were smashing Belinda (B) Lopez's Mauriceville house and furniture.
Stunned, she remembers thinking: "How am I going to afford to buy a new house?"
She didn't know how much the insurance was going to give back to purchase a new home for her and sons Austin, 11, and Dallas, 10.
"Being a single mom with two kids how do you do this?" she agonized.

BILOXI - "If you build it, they will come" could have been the theme of Hancock Bank's 40th annual Gulf Coast Economic Symposium under the "Together We Rebuild" banner Tuesday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. A panel of experts, including the state treasurer, a top business leader and a nationally renowned economic consultant, told a crowd of almost 1,000 that the successful and rapid recovery from the effects of Hurricane Katrina hinges on one issue: housing. "We need to build 80,000 housing units in five years," said panelist Anthony Topazi, president and CEO of Mississippi Power Co. The majority of these units, Topazi said, will be made up of workforce housing. He expects commercial entities to peak in that time frame with a corresponding need for employees and homes they can afford to live in.
Kasto Open House generates over £600,000 of potential business
Interest was shown by both stockholders and manufacturers in Kasto sawing machines and storage systems, and also in machining centre products intended for processing aluminium marketed under a sole agency agreement with the Italian machine tool builder, FOM Industrie, reports managing director Ernst Wagner.
The show marked the launch in the UK of a new Kasto computer-controlled storage system, called Unitower C. Designed to stock a combination sheet, long stock, pallets and boxes, it is a low-cost, modular solution to maximising the amount of material that companies are able to store within a 1.5 m by 3 m footprint.
Mr Wagner further commented that storage systems are becoming more popular these days with the ever-increasing price of industrial building space.
