Antec Launches Versatile Case for the Ultimate Gamer

FREMONT, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 10, 2006 -- Antec, Inc., the leading global brand of high-performance computer components for the PC upgrade and Do-It-Yourself markets, has announced the release of its latest gaming case, Nine Hundred, designed for extreme hardcore gaming.

The Antec Nine Hundred has a highly sophisticated quiet cooling system and allows a system to be easily customized. Gaming hardware produces significant amounts of heat, and Nine Hundred's design incorporates several cooling features, the most outstanding of which is the top-mounted 200mm TriCool fan with 3-speed control. Other cooling features include a perforated front bezel, three 120mm TriCool fans for HDD and system cooling, and two additional mounts for optional 120mm fans to cool graphic cards and the CPU.

Lawmakers to consider sales tax cut

State lawmakers will return Thursday to Jackson in special session to take a second shot at cutting the sales tax on modular houses that could save buyers thousands of dollars.

"The Legislature will allow people to buy new houses for $4,000 to $6,000 less than they have to pay today," Gov. Haley Barbour said Monday. "How can anybody not be for that?"

Barbour ordered the second special session of the year to begin at noon Thursday. Lawmakers will consider lowering the 7 percent sales tax on modular houses to 3 percent.

A similar measure did not survive the August special session because House leaders wanted more information.

Special sessions cost $34,951 a day compared with $18,702 daily in the regular session.

Proponents of the plan say it will spur the creation of affordable housing on the storm-ravaged Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Widgetbox launches widget marketplace

Widgetbox formally launched a new service that provides a directory of Web widgets and supporting platform to build, syndicate and manage small, dynamic Web services that can be embedded on Web pages. Widgetbox CEO Ed Anuff believes that his company’s widget platform, like RSS, can provide a standardized way to build and syndicate modular Web content. "There are two important trends–simple personal publishing and Web services. We play a role in bringing the two together," Anuff said.

According to Anuff, widgets can be categorized in three ways. First, syndicated functionality like Flickr badges (such as for a tag or user), which are designed to draw users to a site. Second, ecommerce widgets, like Google AdSense, and third, site enhancements that add functionality to a Web site, such click-to-connect services, external blog design components and search widgets, like Eurekster.

Contractor describes bribery

SPRINGFIELD - Onetime Springfield Housing Authority contractor Frank Ware Jr. yesterday told jurors in a federal corruption trial he gave cash bribes to a former authority executive at the official's office, the Greek Cultural Center, the Holiday Inn and in the men's room at a local bar.

"It was the cost of doing business at the Springfield Housing Authority," said Ware, a prosecution witness in the trial of another former contractor in U.S. District Court.

Ware is the third private contractor to testify he paid nearly $500,000 in bribes to ousted Executive Director Raymond B. Asselin and his former assistant, Arthur G. Sotirion.

Defendant Peter Davis, 72, of Newburyport, is charged with racketeering conspiracy, bribery conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
